We’ve become a society of weenies. Think about it: we get bad service, for the most part we don’t do a thing about it. We walk down the street and watch people throw their trash on the ground, but we don’t want to say anything to them. Whats happened to us? Well it has to stop. That’s why I wrote this book, Grow a Pair: How to Stop Being a Victim and Take Back Your Life, Your Business, and Your Sanity. Its exactly what we need right now in this country. Keep telling the truth Larry! It is so important that children play sports for every reason you spoke of, and for health and strength – physically and mentally. We need thinkers, and competition is a great way of getting kids to think, strategize, problem-solve and make decisions. Bravo.
Sports are the fun space to screw up and learn your life’s lessons. Come on America, get out and focus on ‘Playing’ sports and the wins will come.
Larry- I think you didn’t emphasize the biggest reason kids are dropping out- delusional parents and coaches. Youth sports now are ridiculous. Parents think little Johnny is going to get a scholarship. There’s all this pressure to pick one sport and play it year round. And most of the coaches all think they are the 2nd coming of Bill Parcells. Do you know that kids, even the good athletes, don’t play 3 sports anymore? They are forced into one at a young age. It’s crazy and the kids lose out.
WOW! I can’t believe that this is even a topic on the national news, because it should never have been a problem. Sports and competition have been part of the foundation of society since the Olympic challenges Before Christ. The gratification of competing and knowing that you gave everything you could, win or lose, is unmatched. I am sure that XBOX 360 is not going to give you the respect of a hard fought battle of endurance, strength, and strategy by looking you in the eye with a handshake and telling you “good game”. I feel whole heartedly that technology is the strongest, and most influential peer pressure that we as parents have ever had to compete with, but if we just give in and not try to fight for our kids interaction, than we aren’t contending in the sport of life.
