Hi Larry
I can’t run a 4 minute mile or jump and touch the top of a basketball hoop either. I’d just like to add that the only person that can motivate someone to be more and do more is the individual themselves, no one else, motivation comes from within. There is nothing that you or anyone else can do is point people in the right direction.
On a side note, I just last week reread your book “It’s called work for a reason” for the third time, and I have been giving away copies of your book “You’re broke because you want to be” for years. Keep Doing It, Jim
Hi Larry,
I enjoy reading your books and I love how your different from most in the self-help business. It is refreshing in today’s world where everything is the same. It seems nobody can come up with a original thought. I am writing a book to help people with their lives. I have a question for you please don’t take this wrong and it is your life. But your a smart man and have helped a lot of people with your information. This is a curiosity about human nature for me. Why do you smoke cigars when you know that the consequences could be bad health? I know this isn’t any of my business, but I keep trying to understand human nature. Years ago I told a friend I was concerned about his smoking and he told me friends don’t tell friends how to live their life’s. Five years later he died of throat cancer. I would love to hear your thoughts about this. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I pray for good things for your family and yourself. This world is really in trouble, keep up the fight! Take Care Don
Fair question Don. First, cigars are MUCH different than cigarettes. I am not saying that they are healthy, but the facts are that they are not nearly as dangerous as cigarettes. It takes 5 cigars per day (if inhaled) to equal one pack of cigarettes. I don’t smoke 5 cigars a week and I don’t inhale. However, there is still a risk involved and I am aware of all of those risks. It’s about choices and I have made the choice that the occasional cigar is okay for me.
I appreciated hearing this, Larry. Believe it or not, this is actually comforting to hear. Like you, I believe in being prepared, putting in rational effort, & I don’t believe in using excuses to crawl out of doing a good job. But I agree that sometimes we can put too great a demand on ourselves and end up regretting it. I, too, and running into the phenomenon known as aging. I also have a chronic condition, and that puts very realistic limits on what I can do.
I am surprising myself by finding I can do more than I thought but I have learned that there is a limit to what I can do, and hearing this has been a real shot in the arm for me today.
Have a super day
