Ten ANTI-Resolutions For The New Year
- Last year is OVER – let it go. No good comes from dwelling on the past.
- Don’t whine about the bad in your life. Whining prolongs the problem and irritates the rest of us.
- Keep your problems to yourself. The tolerant are your enemy, not your friend.
- Keep your dreams to yourself. Naysayers can destroy your dreams by shaking your confidence.
- Never make resolutions- they don’t work. They are task focused, not end-result focused.
- Start with the end in mind. Know EXACTLY what you want your life to look like and make a plan.
- Write things down. Problems get smaller when written down, goals become more real.
- Expect derailment. You will experience setbacks. Big deal. Get over it and move on.
- Don’t stop – unless you need to stop. Sometimes you discover it was a bad goal, or you need to rest, or you need to start over completely – otherwise, stay focused and keep the momentum going.
- Celebrate. Not just at the end, but all along the way.
I like the “Ten ANTI-Resolutions For the New Year”, these are good values to guide a person in the daily activites of life.
I just decided that #10 is my favorite but the entire list is worth printing and positing on my wall! Thanks Larry Happy New Year…David
I think #10 is the best also. You see, the journey towards a goal is actually more fun than reaching the goal. Just like the drive To Disney World is more fun than the drive FROM Disney World. Thanks for the cool tips Larry. Stay Cool.
Larry: Happy New Year to you and keep up the great job of keeping it real with your fans! You are appreciated and you always give me something to think about or smile about and sometimes it is both!

So right Larry, as always! Thank you for your help through your books, emails, FB etc in the past year, it’s working! Wishing you and yours a happy and prosperous new year! And I did love your house, especially the back verandah. Well done and well deserved.
I don’t resolve to not make no resolutions!
I like your blog. I have read three of your books. I have become more motivated in small and large tasks. I believe I am focused more on why I need to make goals and keep them. I have a new job, that I love, a new year is coming, and I will accomplish what I want to do with my life. Thanks, Larry. Sincerely, Laura.
Larry, have you written about #’s 3&4. They are contrarian to what we are fed in the blogosphere these days.
Chris-Yes I have written about both of those concepts in my Shut Up book. I know they are contrarian to what we normally hear but the logic behind my position is sound.
it is sound, its what my parents and grandparents would have told me
Happy new year, Larry. I don’t always agree with you, but I like your straightforward style.
This past year I experienced heavy doses of # 4, but the past is behind me and I am keeping my future to myself. Thank you Larry best for you and yours this year!
