We’ve become a society of weenies. Think about it: we get bad service, for the most part we don’t do a thing about it. We walk down the street and watch people throw their trash on the ground, but we don’t want to say anything to them. Whats happened to us? Well it has to stop. That’s why I wrote this book, Grow a Pair: How to Stop Being a Victim and Take Back Your Life, Your Business, and Your Sanity. Its exactly what we need right now in this country. I think the bigest thing thats wrong with america is that its not under GOD anymore.God is slowly being taken out of the picture and replaced with idols, people that dont care about anything or anyone except themselves .A society that worships fame and fortune and want other people to hand it to them on a silver platter.

And my point about it being more dangerous to drive to the grocery store still holds true. Besides, senility was the over-riding factor here with this old man. He was NOT a responsible gun owner.
It’s not just in America Larry, it is in other countries as well. I’m in Aus Down Under and it’s happening here too. People have become so complacent that it’s easier to do what’s easy, rather than do what’s right! And the complacency then lets the idiots in who yell and scream and bully people into submission. And I’m not referring to governments on their own, it also happens in business and other organisations as well.

Good post, Larry. Ultimately it is our behavior. If we — the commoner, the public — behave badly, then why should be expect our politicians to behave any better? After all, they are people, too. And, if we let our government run all over us, make boondoggle projects, be inefficient, overtax us, create arcane rules and regulations, etc. then we have nothing to blame but ourselves for not throwing the fools out of office. Politicians are our public servants, not the other way around.
Let’s take law enforcement. The military and police do a great job protecting us sometimes, but bad apples among them can abuse their power. Arbitrary enforcement, harassment, falsified police reports, tampering with evidence, witness intimidation, stealing evidence. They are as bad as the crooks them are supposed to catch. And, they are people, like us. Like politicians, law enforcement are public servants that should work for us, the public, not against us. (Recently some local police officers were indicted because they wereselling items confiscated from busting thievery gangs.)
We let businesses, especially large corporations that have a lot of sway in government, do the same thing to us. While most businesses are honest, forthright organizations, the profit motive can sometimes entice them to overcharge us, offer inferior service and products, outsource jobs, hire non-citizens for cheap, take back promises, etc. — all in the name of “free” enterprise. And corporations are composed of people as well. If we don’t like the way companies are treating us — we who buy their products and services — they we can stop being their customers. (There is a nice story in the NY Times today about how parents are making their own baby food, because they cannot find what they want from baby food manufacturers and they save money by making it themselves.)
